Are u looking for a side dish for idli, dosa or chapathi which is lil watery, yet yummy and healthy too.???๐ค๐Here is a different version of sambar where we add less dhal and more tomato with spices and coconut added to it.๐ This dish is a perfect combo for almost any south Indian breakfast.๐๐ It may taste like kurma if we add more coconut. So add it consciously as per your choice.๐ซโจ
Ingredients:
Oil - 1tbsp
Mustard - one tsp
Urad dhal - half tsp
Bay leaf -1 no.
Cinnamon - I small bark
Star anise -1 no.
Small onions - one handful
Big onion - half no.
Green chillies - 5 nos.
Garlic - 5nos.
Garam masala -1 tsp
Tomato (ripe) - 5 nos. (medium sized)
Cooked green gram dhal - half cup
Salt to taste
Curry leaves -a few
Coriander leaves - a few
(MASALA -To grind)
Coconut - 2 tbsp (grated)
Cashew -5 nos.
Roasted Bengal gram -1 tbsp
Fennel seeds -1 tsp
Poppy seeds -1 tsp
Method:
- To a mixer jar add coconut, cashew, roasted Bengal gram, fennel seeds and poopy seeds.
- Add lil water, grind it to a fine smooth paste and keep aside.
- Heat a pan and add two tsp of oil. To this add few mustard seeds and urad dhal,one bay leaf, one small cinnamon and two cloves.
- Saute them well and add one handful of small onions and a half big onion.
- To this add slit green chillies, curry leaves, salt and turmeric powder and fry onions till translucent.
- Now add crushed garlic, finely cut tomatoes and sautรฉ them till mushy.
- After the tomato get mashed well add one tablespoon of sambar powder. Add half a glass of water and allow to boil for five minutes.
- Add well cooked green gram dhal and allow to boil
- To this add the grounded paste and allow to boil only for 2-3 minutes.
- Add one tsp of garam masala at last and allow it to boil for a few minutes.
- Add chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
