Kani Akka Meen Kuzhambu

Ingredients

Pomfret fish  200gms
Small onions (peeled) one handsful
Garlic - 10 to 15 nos.
Big onions 3 nos.
Tomato (medium sized) 2 nos.
Ginger garlic paste  one teaspoon
Turmeric powder 2tsp
Red chilli powder 1 tablespoon
Coriander powder 2 tablespoon
Kuzhambu podi (homemade) 1 tablespoon
Tamarind a big gooseberry sized
Gingelly oil 5 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Cumin seeds 2tsp
Mustard  1 tsp
Fenugreek 1tsp
Curry leaves 3 springs
Brinjal(small sized)  5 nos.

Directions

Clean fish in fresh water and add half tsp of salt and a pinch of turmeric and a tsp of ginger garlic paste to it. Allow to marinate for atleast half an hour.

Soak tamarind in water and extract pulp which makes around 200 ml.

Roghly cut big onions and coarsely grind it with cumin seeds and keep aside.

Grind the tomatoes roughly and keep aside.

In a broad bottomed vessel, add gingelly oil and temper with mustard seeds and fenugreek.

Add the small onions and garlic at once. Take care that the fenugreek doesn't get burnt.

Saute them well till translucent. Add one tsp of rock salt and a pinch of turmeric powder to it.

Now add the crushed onion and saute well.

Add brinjals and saute for a minute, just before adding tomatoes.

Once the oil start separating, add coarsely ground tomatoes and saute well for five minutes.

Now in the turmeric pulp, add one tsp of salt, a tsp of tueric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and home made kuzhambu powder and mix well.

Take two springs of curry leaves and crush them. Add to the pulp.

Once the tomatoes become mushy and oil ooze out, add the tamarind pulp to it.

Adjust the salt level and add water if necessary. Allow to boil in high flame for five minutes.Keep it little thick as adding fish may make it a bit watery .

Now add the fish pieces and let it boil for five more minutes.

Add one spring of curry leaves.Keep it closed in low flame for another five minutes.

Now, the yummy Kani Akka Meen Kuzhambu is ready yo serve.
