Black Gram Dhal Rice



An authentic dish in South Tamil Nadu and extremely healthy dish. As black gram dhal and gingelly oil is said to be good to strengthen pelvic bones, this recipe is a must make in houses where girls attain puberty.πŸ‘ΈAlso women can have this regularly at least twice a month or during menstruation as it is believed to strengthen the body.πŸ’ͺ
              
                This recipe goes well only with coconut thuvayal and papad or vathal. So remember to get these ready before making Black Gram Dhal Rice. I personally prefer to have this only with papad,πŸͺ but at times it so happen that I make this only when vathals are available.πŸ˜”

Ingredients:
  • Raw rice  - 1cup
  • Black gram dhal (broken) - 1/4 cup
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbspn
  • Garlic 10-12 nos.
  • Fenugreek seeds 1tsp
  • Sesame oil - use generously (while mixing after cooking)



Method:

Wash raw rice and dhal together and soak them for only 15 minutes. The outer coat of the dhal may be lost while washing if it is soaked for long time.

In a pressure cooker add 3cups of water and add the rice and dhal.

Add the cumin seeds, fenugreek and garlic to it.

Add required salt and pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles as we do for venpongal.

Mix well and check for salt. Add if required. 

It tastes more good only when it is hot. 

Enjoy mixing it with sesame oil and coconut thuvayal.

Papad or vathal goes well with this.
